6 Tips for Writing Good Goals

 1.  Write your goals down.  This is the most important thing you can do.  If it helps, post it on your computer, write it on your mirror, or frame it and put it on your wall.   Whatever it takes, get the goals in front of you often.

2. Make your goals attainable.  You want goals that you can reach. (Your brain gets a rush when you reach a goal.)

Bad Example: I will take over all television shows in the world.
Good Example: I will start my own television series online this month.

3.  Write  goals in the positive.  State your goals about what you want to accomplish, not what you want to avoid.  (Interesting fact, your subconscious brain does not register negatives.)

Bad Example: I will not waste time watching TV.
Good Example: I will spend my time working on my business.

4. Make  goals specific.  The more specific your goal, the more likely you are to attain it.

Bad Example: I will work on my business.
Good Example: I will work on my business for one hour a day this week.

5.  State your goals as if they have already happened.

Bad Example: I will work on my business this week..
Good Example: I am working on my business for one hour each day.

6. Review your goals often.  I know some business men who rewrite their goals each week.  You don’t have to do that, but if it helps, go for it.  At least read your goals each week.  Put them on your dresser mirror or by your bed and review them often.

I hope this article helps you write good goals.  Start working on your goals now.  If you need some pointers on the why’s and what’s of goals visit our article on goals.

One last thought: When I was younger, one my largest goals was to become more than what my parents were.  This was a great goal, but it was vague.  Eventually, I started making goals in different areas of my life, like not drinking or doing drugs.  I made a goal to do my best in school and I wanted to have a better life.   I got involved in church and found out how to be a person of character.  I encourage you to find out about the true richness that Christ provides.  In the Bible Jesus says, “I have come to give them life and give them life more abundantly.”

The key is to WRITE them down and REVIEW them frequently. It does something in your brain when you write things down. It kind of tricks your brain into thinking it is real.
