Funny Business

planking verticleIf you look at the picture to the right, hopefully you got a little chuckle from it.

We instantly recognize when something is funny.  No matter what language you speak or where you are from, laughter is the universal language.  If you don’t believe me, just look on youtube for funny Japanese commercials.  If you don’t speak Japanese, you will still understand them, and I bet you laugh.

We all have humor.   As a teen, there are things that you find funny that are ‘cutting edge’ ideas.  (No one knew what planking was ten years ago!)  If you can tie into your inner clown (no big shoes or make-up necessary . . . unless you are into those things), then you can really connect with your audience and gain big attention.

If you look on Youtube, you will see that some of the funniest stuff has been created or used for commercials.  Just think about the Super Bowl commercials.  How many of them are funny.  And, those are the ones people talk about and remember.

If you can make people laugh, they will remember you because you created a new idea in their head.  If you can cause them to shift their thinking because of what you shared with them, then you could have a customer for life because you will be remembered.

Ready for some big words?  Emotional Catharsis.  (Be careful who you say that to, or they may be offended.)

When you can create an emotional catharsis in someone you have connected to them on a very deep level.  Emotionl catharsis simple means they released emotions.  When someone laughs, it is one of the best emotional catharsis you can have. . . well at least the most pleasant.

So, why did the chicken cross the road. . . .

. . . to make you laugh!  I mean, seriously, why would a chicken, who is too chicken anyway, want to cross a big scary road?  But YOU, you are no chicken and I know you will make it happen.

PS No chickens, clowns or plankers were harmed in the making of this article.
