Submission
July 27th, 2010From my own experience, life seemed much harder when I was rebellious and prideful. And that is why ,in my opinion, learning how, when, where, and why to submit to people is an important lesson to learn the easy way. Submission often has earned me trust, respect, and friends. And it is extremely important when dealing with authority.
Humbling yourself to submit to others earns you so much more than pride does. However submission does not mean you have to be a push-over. Standing your ground also earns you respect but going to the point where it becomes conceded just makes things worse.
If we learned to submit to authorities and those around us, life becomes so much easier. Being a humble servant doesn’t mean you are a push-over and can’t be a leader, it shows compassion and willingness to serve and solve problems. And it makes your life much easier and will help you deal with authorities and leadership in the future.
A Valuable Business: Not Money but Enjoyment
July 27th, 2010“There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. ‘For whom am I toiling,’ he asked ,’and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?’ This too is meaningless–a miserable business!” ~Ecclesiastes 4:8 NIV
Business should not be something you do merely for money. There has to be a passion or enjoyment that you gain that drives you onward. If there is no enjoyment or passion then what reason is there to do business? I mean money doesn’t last forever and it definitely does not buy happiness. Through business you should be able to change someone’s life for the better and in a way that benefits them, first of all, and you. If, through business, you can change someone’s life then it adds value to business. The point is that it is not about monetary gain but how you can enjoy business and change a life for the better in the process.
“For the sun rises with a scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.” ~James 1:11 NIV
Vision in Leadership
April 11th, 2010One skill that all leaders should have is vision. And no I do not mean vision as in everyday visibility but rather as goal-setting, dreaming, or seeing a future that is better than the present. This does not mean vison is limitless because then it lacks credibility. Vision is created in the tension between the way things are and the way they ought to be. Vision is indispensable and without it people are confused, frustrated, angry, agruemenative, and unmotivated. However with vision people are moving toward a common goal, they are effective, motivated, and in co-operation. If you don’t have a vision for your organization or business you are not leading but managing at the least.
“Where there is no vision(revelation), people cast off restraint; but blessed are those who heed wisdom’s instruction.” ~Provervbs 29:18(NIV)
Leaders see what others don’t. They must, collaborating with their team, craft a vision that is so compelling, so much bigger than any one person. With vision, the right team, and proper communication, everyone is put in the frame of an energizing picture of the future.
Honesty in “The Business World”
February 2nd, 2010Honesty is something that is not common much anymore, especially in the business world. Every once a while we hear about some CEO getting sacked for a money scheme or dishonesty. Do we ever hear about what drove them to such depths? No and does it really matter? When you are incorporated in the business world honesty is a big factor in picking who stays and who goes. This is a simple fact nonetheless and we would think that these business men would get it.
Just because the business world is dishonest doesn’t mean we have to be. Everyone wants someone who is honest and all it takes is one person, one group, or one business to change everything. Being sincere is something we are never taught in detail, but is enough people are honest and sincere then what could happen to the “corporation”, our nation, and even the rest of the world.
